Leslie’s Notes: My 14-year-old daughter, Sara, really wanted to see this movie when it came out on my birthday, but we didn’t see it until two weeks later, after we saw both the new Harold and Kumar movie and Jack and Jill with Adam Sandler playing twins, a male and a female. I figured that we needed at little Shakespeare to balance out those two comedies! This movie is an intense drama, but it also has good production value, including filming locations in Germany that looks like England in the 1600s. Another interesting fact is that Vanessa Redgrave plays an older Queen Elizabeth in the movie and her own daughter, Joely Richardson, plays the younger Queen Elizabeth.

Leslie’s Notes: Oh. My. Gosh! What was Adam Sandler thinking when he agreed to make this movie? And did Al Pacino lose some kind of bet? Why does Katie Holmes look like she is in a trance during the entire movie? This movie has a few funny scenes and many cameo appearances by different celebrities. Some you will recognize right away, and others you won’t! Toward the end of the movie, the family goes on a Caribbean Christmas Cruise, and Sara told me that it was filmed on an actual cruise ship, right after our family went on a 2010 Caribbean Christmas Cruise too!
This movie has received a lot of bad reviews, but my 14-year-old daughter really loved it!
Starring: John Cho as Harold and Kal Penn as Kumar
Release Date: Friday, November 4, 2011
Brief Description: Six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure, stoner buds Harold Lee and Kumar Patel cause a holiday fracas by inadvertently burning down Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree.
As anyone who knows me or has read any of my past movies reviews either on Facebook or in my blog, I always try to incorporate funny facts and interesting trivia into my reviews. I have two interesting items about this movie. The first one is that my 18-year-old daughter, Lauren, went to Horace Mann Arts & Sciences Middle School in Little Rock with a friend named Christina Kim whose family used to live in Los Angeles and went to the same church as John Cho, who plays Harold.
And the second one involves a scene where someone says something to the character, Kumar, about working at the White House. Sara told while we were watching the movie that the actor really did work at the White House, so I looked it up on IMDB and read that actor Kal Penn accepted a position as the associate director in the White House’s Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs on April 7, 2009.
I have included a spoiler about this movie, but I listed it at the end of this blog in case some people don’t want to know!

Leslie’s Notes: Even though I said I would not see the new movie “Footloose”, actually a remake of the 1984 hit starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, and John Lithgow, I did see it. On the first day it came out. AND I LOVED IT! There are a few different things – Ren goes to live in the South with his Uncle’s family and therefore everything has a country flair to it, including the songs and the line dancing.

When we saw the movie the weekend it came out, I remember thinking these things during the movie: How many times is Taylor Lautner going to take off his shirt?; Why does actress Maria Bello look so pretty in her movies but looks and acts so rough in her new TV Show “Prime Suspect”?; I remember watching Phil Collins on MTV while in college in the 80’s and my Chi Omega sorority sister Molly saying that he looked like Squiggy on “Laverne & Shirley”! Now his daughter Lily is a popular movie star and has really pretty eye makeup on in this movie! Blah, blah, blah, let’s just enjoy looking at another picture of Taylor Lautner (and not in a creepy way at all)!
One of my favorite picture’s of Darren taken by Sara! |
Look! It’s a picture of Taylor with Lea Michele (Rachel) from Glee!
