Description: A failed New York York playwright, Imogene, played by Kristen Wiig, awkwardly navigates the transition from “Next Big Thing’ to “Last Years News”. She is forced to move back to her childhood home in New Jersey with her eccentric mother (Annette Bening); her mother’s strange boyfriend (Matt Dillon); her quirky younger brother (Christopher Fitzgerald); and a male boarder (Darren Criss).
I LOVE this movie! I saw Girl Most Likely the first day it was shown in Little Rock during a limited release in July 2013 and I really liked the amazing cast. I enjoyed watching Kristen Wiig as a cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) and her performance in Bridesmaids, which she also co-wrote. Annette Bening and Matt Dillon have been in many comedies and dramas during the years and both are Academy Award nominated actors. But the real reason I saw the movie is because of Darren Criss. I have been a fan of Darren’s since he first appeared on Glee in the role of Blaine Anderson on November 9, 2010 in the episode “Never Been Kissed”. My daughters and I saw Darren perform with the rest of the cast in the Glee Live concert tour in Chicago in June 2011 and then met Darren at a Meet & Greet before his concert at the Six Flags in St. Louis on July 21, 2011. The day after we met Darren it was announced that he was selected for this movie, originally named Imogen and that he was also going to star on Broadway for three weeks in the musical “How To Succeed In Business“.

But even if I wasn’t a fan of Darren, I would still like this movie. He does a great job as Lee, a boy band performer in a casino. His character is charming, funny and very talented. Kind of like Darren is in person!
I was surprised that this movie received many negative reviews. I think the main reason is because people went to see it expecting a comedy and it does have some dramatic parts in it. But it is overall a comedy and contains many good scenes along with excellent production value. I definitely recommend watching it as an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours at home on DVD or online on your computer or phone.
Here are two more movies I have recently seen and recommend:
And these two movies both opened today and I’m looking forward to seeing them soon:
